Welcome!

Hello ladies!

Thank you so much for being apart of this book club and we are excited everyone is so enthusiastic to take this on! Our first meeting on "The Book Thief" was a wonderful success! We missed Emily, Lucy, and Maureen! The discussion covered many different topics, including themes, thoughts, and insights.

We discussed overestimating and underestimating, support, raw emotion, the power of words, and most importantly, the love of books. After the meeting, we realized the beauty and symbolism of having "The Book Thief" be the first book for the club, as it really was about loving words and loving books. Books saved the life of Liesel, both literally and metaphorically. The emotional and physical connection we as readers can have with books is so important. We discussed how books have saved us and how our connection to them have helped us through many times in our own lives. The passion for reading and books is very evident in this book club, and we are so excited for the months to come!

After figuring a blog would be such a great way to stay in touch and store information for the club, we needed to find a name! We thought "Bound by Books" was a great name, as it represents the personal bond we have with books and how books hopefully will bind our group together. We hope that the club will be a way to bring us together through our love of books, our discussions on topics, and the ways we can build each other up. For the blog, don't feel as though you have to post all of the time or make this a daily habit. It is mainly to touch base, add extra thoughts or insights, and keep a schedule going.

We are grateful for your insights and for your energy. We are next meeting the ninth of January and are reading  "Eichmann in Jerusalem" by Hannah Arendt. Lucy is in charge for January and we are so looking forward to our next meeting! Even if you can't make the meeting each month, read the book and post your thoughts on this blog! That way we can still feel connected and as though we aren't missing out.
